Introduction
Are we the only ones? We are a Christian family, and we home schooled our children and want them to find suitable spouses. This is a serious life decision and it cannot be done lightly. This page is mostly dedicated to helping our daughter find a suitable husband, but maybe it will expand and grow over time. Please only serious suitors need apply.
So, let us explain a little about our beliefs not because other people who don't agree with us "aren't good enough." That's not it at all. We have plenty of friends that we don't agree with theologically which we get along great with, but marriage is a different matter. It's just that "can two walk together except they be agreed?" (Amos 3:3). That is why we set up this blog - to seek for those of like mind.
We have in no way "arrived." We are a work in progress, seeking to "walk humbly with our God," and still struggling and seeking the Lord's help for every day. We are not "the perfect family," because one does not exist, although we think we enjoy many good times together.
These are the top five non-negotiables that we are seeking in a man (and in a church actually).
1) Fundamental, Bible-believing, separated.
2) Sovereign grace understanding of salvation - i.e., "doctrines of grace" (sometimes called "Calvinism" although it is simply old-fashioned Bible doctrine, not originated with Calvin, and the same doctrine that Baptists have historically believed).
3) King James Bible. No, we are not a cult. It is simply the most accurate translation for our time, and all of the modern versions are based on the erroneous Westcott-Hort text (except the New King James version which also has numerous departures from the original text).
4) Non-contemporary music both during worship services and outside of worship services.
5) Separation of lifestyle, including abstinence from alcoholic beverages - even at the Lord's Table. In other words a difference from the world in the way we live, look, dress, and live.
Please do not write to try to explain why we are wrong on any of those five positions. We have spent decades thinking it through and yes, we have heard the other sides (several times). This is where we stand. We are looking for those of like mind to join with us.
Moving to Northwest Arkansas would be really nice. :) This is a beautiful place to live.
****************************************
We don't really fit in with most "fundamental Baptists" because of the Arminian Dispensational theology that has infected the church at large. We don't claim to understand all things related to end times, but we don't see a pre-trib rapture anywhere in the Bible. We don't see the Biblical case for "independent" or "local only" church government either.
We don't necessarily fit in with the "reformed" camp either, where drinking alcohol, modern versions, immodesty, and contemporary music are common. We also do not agree with infant baptism.
We certainly don't fit with the "modern" church movement designed more like a marketing campaign with "something for everyone" that makes everyone feel good and has no real theological depth.
So where do we fit? There must be serious young men out there who know and love the Lord, know and love the KJV Bible, who have a work ethic, a humble heart, and a desire to have a sweet, modest, beautiful, and submissive wife to be a helpmeet and keeper at home and mother of his children.
Some other important distinctives in no particular order:
* Home schooling as a way of life
* Healthier eating/lifestyle (whole foods, locally grown whenever possible)
* All 10 Commandments are still binding today, which means the 4th Commandment is not "optional." This means we do not buy/sell on Sunday if at all possible, unless an extreme "ox in the ditch situation." It is a day set apart for the things of God and works of mercy and necessity. Yes, we are "under grace" now, which means we are free from the ceremonial law, which never could earn salvation and was always a picture of Christ. But we are expected to obey the moral law because God is God and requires it, and because we love Him, not because it in any way earns salvation.
* Modesty and distinction in genders. We think men should look like men and women should look like women. Women/girls in our household do not wear pants for two reasons - modesty and distinction of the genders.
It is very difficult for a woman to be modest in a pair of jeans because of how much it reveals of a woman's shape. Deuteronomy 22:5 says that it is an "abomination" for a woman to wear a man's clothing. That is a strong word, and it is teaching the principle of gender distinction. We came to this understanding by reading the Bible for ourselves, not from any teachers. There may be teachers out there who teach about "no pants for women" and they may have wrong motivations or teachings about that, but that makes no difference to us or to what the word of God actually says because we do not follow any man.
This is important to us, and it is important to not be misunderstood. We are not holier than anyone else. It is a matter of simple obedience motivated by love for God and a desire to please Him, NOT because any man thinks "it's a good idea" and not as a way of "proving we are saved." This simple thing has actually opened doors of opportunity for witnessing for Christ when total strangers walk up and ask us about our faith. We believe that God calls His people to be set apart from the world -- not just like the world -- in order to win them.
If you have read this far and are still interested, then let's talk. We have some questions for any serious inquirer to answer here.
